GUEST ARTIST #2

Matias Giuliani & Silvina Zicolillo: UN SOLO TEXTO Y UNA SOLA VOZ
Audiovisual Installation & Concept Performance

What other senses may emerge when what we hear is not entirely clear?
How does our imagination operate in the process of trying to complete what remains unfinished—what appears veiled, intervened, interfered with?
What power arises from the impossibility of achieving full auditory clarity?

This installation seeks to investigate the diverse ways we position ourselves in relation to the act of listening, exploring the multiple dimensions that unfold within and around the sound-musical object and the listener’s memory and imagination.

Presented work:

UN SOLO TEXTO Y UNA SOLA VOZ
i.e. ‘A single text and a single voice’, live performance at the opening event.
Deals with ‘the confusion’ between two voices.

RÉPÉTITION
invites imagining and reflecting on something that is sounding but remains unheard

n. n.
premiere of a new quadrophonic electroacoustic composition

MATIAS GIULIANI (Buenos Aires, 1975)

A Buenos Aires-based artist, transitioned from academic music composition to explore conceptual, performance art, and transdisciplinary boundaries. He holds bachelor’s degrees in Composition and Choral Conducting from UCA, and received extensive instruction from renowned composers Jorge Rosso, Jorge Sad, and Francisco Kropfl. Recent years have seen Giuliani’s artistic focus shift to an intermediate space bridging musical composition and performance art. Here, musicians are seen as both interpreters and stage performers with specialized musical knowledge. His work with Nuevo Ex Ensamble Wonderland!, which he co-directs with Silvina Zicolillo, has been crucial to this evolution. Giuliani is a composition professor and coordinator of the Advanced Program in Contemporary Music at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory. He also advocates for the Mixed Media Composition program at the Astor Piazzolla Conservatory, co-directing the MIXLAB project with Lautaro Vieyra. He has taught courses, workshops, and lectures including the University of Auckland and IRCAM. Giuliani’s works have been presented in Argentina and abroad at several venues. He has received honors such as the Municipal Award, multiple J.C. Paz Awards from the FNA, and scholarships from organizations like OV-Alliance, BIT20 ENSEMBLE, and Fondation Royaumont. Giuliani serves as a tutor in the Transdisciplinary Creation Laboratory in Buenos Aires and as a consultant in the “Compositional Residencies, Contemporary Discussions” project at the National University of Córdoba. Over two decades, he has organized numerous talks and workshops, fostering collaboration among composers, performers, and creators in institutional settings. In addition to their artistic practice, they systematically engage in teaching and mentorship, leading courses, workshops, and creative process guidance within artistic residencies. Their work dialogues with elements of musical tradition while interrogating notions such as “performer,” “audience,” “concert,” and “authorship.” Their projects span genres like sound/musical creation, performance, and expanded scenic arts.
