The IKM

At the IKM—founded in 1975—we combine the academic disciplines of cultural institutions studies, cultural policy research, cultural studies, and gender studies in research and teaching.

We offer courses at bachelor’s and master’s degree levels and enable dissertation projects within the framework of PhD studies as part of our commitment to promoting young talent. In addition, with our two postgraduate programs—one for cultural management, the other for applied dramaturgy—we offer two university continuing-education courses with a master's degree, which can be completed part-time, so that theory and practice mutually enrich each other.

We regularly organise national and international conferences, symposia, meetings, workshops, panel discussions, etc. in which we present the department's teaching and research activities to an interested public.
The IKM Library is also open to the public. It offers a unique collection of literature on cultural management, cultural policy, cultural law, cultural statistics, cultural theory, and gender studies. We cordially invite you to use the IKM Library as a quiet place to work.

Our international networking is reflected in our active involvement in numerous international research networks (e.g. ENCATC, Fachverband Kulturmanagement, International Music Business Research Association) as well as in many national and international research projects and cooperations.
