Livio Marcaletti was born in Bergamo, Italy, in 1984. After studying musicology and Italian studies in Pavia and Cremona, he obtained a PhD in musicology from the University of Bern with a thesis on Vocal ornaments and German singing treatises in the 18th and 19th centuries.
From 2011 to 2016, he was a research assistant at the same institute as part of the SNF project Kontinuität oder Koinzidenz? Gesangspraxis und Gesangsästhetik 'italienischer' Prägung im Spiegel schriftlicher und akustischer Quellen (1600-1950).
From 2016 to 2022, he worked as a project manager in the field of libretto research and opera translations at the University of Vienna and the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Since 2022, he has been working as a university assistant at the Department of Musicology and Performance Studies at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Since the summer semester of 2026, he has been teaching students at the Department of Voice and Musical Theatre as a lecturer in Stylistics and Performance Practice in several courses in the field of music history.
