Gennaro Morvillo grew up in Massa Lubrense, a village on the Sorrento Peninsula in Italy. After graduating from high school, he studied art history at the Suor Orsola Benincasa University in Naples, graduating with honours. In 1998, he moved to Vienna to pursue a doctorate in art history. From 1999 onwards, he taught Italian at various schools, including the University of Applied Sciences Vienna, the Italian Cultural Institute, the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and at the grammar school of the Wiener Sängerknaben.
An important step in his training as a language teacher was his teacher training in Italian and history at the University of Vienna. His passion for music is also reflected in the topic of his teacher training thesis: 19th-century Neapolitan songs. He has been teaching Italian to singing students at the Department of Voice and Musical Theatre since the winter semester of 2024.
