The versatile conductor, pianist and composer Daniel Linton-France studied concert piano and conducting with Prof. Christoph Lieske and Prof. Dennis Russell Davies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. After completing his studies, he initially worked as an assistant at the Tyrolean Festival Erl, followed by engagements as solo répétiteur, head of music opera studio and conductor. He was engaged as principal conductor at the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater, the Staatstheater Braunschweig and the Landestheater Linz. He has conducted over 40 different musical theatre works of all genres, including Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Die Walküre by Richard Wagner, La Bohème, Madame Butterfly and Tosca by Giacomo Puccini, Mozart's Da Ponte operas, operettas by Lehár and Kálmán, various ballet productions such as Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev, and contemporary works such as Solaris by Michael Obst and McTeague by William Bolcom. He has also worked as an artist and musical assistant at festivals such as the Bayreuth Festival (as assistant to Kirill Petrenko for Der Ring des Nibelungen), the Salzburg Festival, the Tyrolean Festival and the Carinthian Summer in Austria, as well as the Snow and Symphony Festival (Switzerland) and the Festival Cultural de Mayo (Mexico), and at various venues such as the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Verdi in Florence and the Teatro Verdi in Trieste. As a conductor, he has worked with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, the Tyrolean Festival Orchestra, the Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini, the Haydn Orchestra Bolzano, the Daegu International Opera Festival Orchestra (Korea), the Orchestra of the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater, the Ensemble Noura Juku (Japan), the Orchestre de la Garde Républicaine (France), the Johann Strauss Ensemble and the Ensemble Risognanze (Italy).
In addition to his conducting activities, he is a much sought-after accompanist and chamber music partner. In cooperation with the Brucknerhaus Linz, he has recorded songs and piano works by Anton Bruckner and composers associated with him for the Austrian label Gramola. As a composer, he has written occasional works, works for theatre, chamber operas, choral works and for various chamber music ensembles. His paraphrase of Schubert's Du bist die Ruh for flute and piano was awarded a prize at the 2003 "Franz Schubert and Modern Music" competition in Graz and published by Edition Kossack. His chamber opera Episoden von Kerel und Galvin – eine kurze Reiseoper was performed by students of the Department of Voice and Musical Theatre at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre in 2022. He was the founder and artistic director of the concert series "Living Room Artists" at the Neues Musiktheater Linz. Since autumn 2018, Daniel Linton-France has been working as a senior artist for musical interpretation at our Department.
