Nieves Cavic-Podgornik Nieves Cavic-Podgornik was born in 1962 in Hohenems, Vorarlberg, to Slovenian-speaking parents. She studied Slavic and Romance languages at the University of Salzburg. In 1985/86, she also studied at Lomonosov University in Moscow. After completing her studies, she worked as a Russian teacher at the Waldorf School in Vienna Mauer in 1987/88 and has been working as a lecturer in Russian at the ​Department of Slavonic Studies at the University of Vienna since 1989. Together with Dr. Edith Lampl, she wrote the Russian textbooks Russisch für Anfänger (Russian for Beginners) and Russisch für Fortgeschrittene (Russian for Advanced Learners), published by Berger-Verlag. She has been teaching Russian phonetics to students at the Department of Voice and Musical Theatre at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 2009.
