University Assistant (f/m/d – predoctoral) for Cultural Management

The Department for Cultural Management and Gender Studies (IKM) at mdw – University for Music and Performing Arts is offering a position as

University Assistant (f/m/d – predoctoral)
for Cultural Management

to be filled at the earliest possible date.

Extent of employment: Part-time position at 75 % (with the possibility of increasing to full time at a later stage)
Contract: Fixed-term employment contract for 4 years in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement
Salary: According to the collective bargaining agreement, the monthly gross salary is € 2.786,10. Depending on relevant previous experience, a starting salary of up to € 3.302,85 is possible.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Collaboration in planning and implementing research projects in the fields of Cultural Management and Cultural Institutions Studies as well as independent research with regard to the own dissertation project
• Teaching from the second year of employment onwards to an extent of one course per semester (2 SWS) within the field of Cultural Management
• Participation in international conferences
• Publication activity
• Collaboration in organizational and administrative tasks of the Department, in the University committees, and in evaluation measures

Employment Requirements:

• Completed studies (Master’s degree or diploma) in Cultural Studies, Social Sciences, Economic Sciences or adjacent subjects; attested engagement with the cultural sector during one’s studies
• Basic knowledge of academic discussions and research on the framework conditions, processes, structures and practices of the cultural fields and/or arts and cultural management; comprehensive theoretical and methodological knowledge in these research areas
• Ongoing dissertation or dissertation proposal on phenomena of the cultural sector (to be documented with a synopsis/exposé of 3-5 pages including a bibliography and timetable)
• Very good German and English skills (German C1, English B2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in organizing events and/or teaching in the academic field and in projects;
• Ability to work in a team and willingness to further connect the research areas represented at the department
• Research interests in areas of discrimination-critical, intersectionality-reflective or diversity-oriented cultural management research and/or cultural institutions studies
• Experience in inter- or transdisciplinary exchange and interest in international cooperation
