Liebe Studierende, Kolleg:innen und Interessierte!

Die vorlesungsfreie Zeit steht vor der Türe – doch bevor für viele die wohlverdiente Urlaubszeit startet, möchten wir an alle, die bereits im September wieder Campusluft schnuppern möchten, ein SAVE THE DATE für die Konferenz Groove the City - Move the Streets aussprechen, die am 17. & 19. September 2026 an der mdw stattfindet. Eingebettet in den Kontext der Urban Music Studies als lebendiges und interdisziplinäres Forschungsfeld, das sich mit den dynamischen Wechselwirkungen zwischen Musik und urbanem Leben befasst, finden im Rahmen der Konferenz Vorträge, Diskussionen und Erkundungen statt zu Fragen nach den vielfältigen Mobilitäten, die Klänge und Laute in urbanen Kontexten prägen und von ihnen geprägt werden. Die Konferenz „Groove the City – Move the Streets“ findet in Verbindung mit dem Symposium „Public Spaces, Urban Cultures and Hope“ der Thematic Group for Public Spaces and Urban Cultures of the Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP TG PSUC) an der TU Wien (18. September 2026) statt.

Groove the City - Move the Streets

3rd International Conference of the Urban Music Studies Scholars’ Network in cooperation with the Thematic Group for Public Spaces and Urban Cultures of the Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP TG PSUC)
17 & 19 September 2026
mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts  

The third international conference of the Urban Music Studies Scholars’ Network Groove the City – Move the Streets, takes place 17+19 September 2026 at mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in combination with the Public Spaces, Urban Cultures and Hope Symposium of the Thematic Group for Public Spaces and Urban Cultures of the Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP TG PSUC) at Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien) which takes place on the 18 September 2026. Both combined events seek to deepen this research field by examining the manifold mobilities that shape and are shaped by sound in urban contexts. This includes a critical engagement with the concept and materiality of “the street” as a multifaceted and symbolic terrain where social, cultural, and political processes unfold.
