"Our songs are shreds of memories. "
Music, Remembering and Cultural Memory", dem 8. Band der "Studies in Music" des Hildesheimer Center for World Music, der ethnomusikologische und kulturwissenschaftliche Perspektiven zu den Themen Musik, Erinnern und kulturelles Gedächtnis zusammenführt.
"Memory is a beautiful place, a warm place for me. I was forced to leave Syria, it was not my plan. I like it when I hear or see my memories again. I think that is also the case for these people listening to our music, they hear or see or feel memories. It is a warm place, a beautiful place, also for our audience." (Basma Jabr)

"Dancing Presence and Awareness:
'Khaita – Joyful Dances' as a Mindfulness Practice"

"Dancing Presence and Awareness: 'Khaita – Joyful Dances' as a Mindfulness Practice"
by Eva Leick
In this recently published article, Eva Leick argues that the dance practice of ‘Khaita – Joyful Dances’ has been intentionally designed as a mindfulness practice with the aim of fostering presence and awareness by the Dzogchen master Namkhai Norbu. The three Khaita principles of awareness (Dems, Gyu and Drig) revolve around aspects of proprioception, smooth movements, musicality, spatial and group awareness and guide dancers to the here and now. They demand non-judgmental, purposeful and non-reactive attention, hence mindfulness, that results in more mature states of awareness and presence.

Mindj Panther – Feminist Hip Hop in Romanes
Video programme by Erna Cuesta for Minet TV
Mindj Panther is the feminist hip hop duo Sandra Selimović and Simonida Selimović, who speak up against racism and for equal rights for Rom*nja. The duo's name is derived from the word "Mindj", an expression for vagina in Romanes, and refers to the Black Panther movement. Sandra and Simonida, who also founded the first feminist professional Rom*nja theatre association Romano Svato, tell their own story in their multilingual texts.
Erna Cuesta met the two musicians and activists in Vienna, where they performed on stage as part of the 2023 MMRC Lecture.
