Im letzten Newsletter dieses Jahres möchten wir Sie über aktuelle Entwicklungen am Music and Minorities Research Center informieren.
Veranstaltungsrückblick
The 2020 MMRC Lecture
Am 11. November 2020 fand – unter besonderen Bedingungen und als reines Online-Event – die erste MMRC Lecture statt. Dawn Chatty und Marko Kölbl traten nach ihren jeweiligen Vorträgen miteinander in Dialog, um das Thema „Flucht” einerseits in Hinblick auf verschiedene Communities – syrische und afghanische Geflüchtete in unterschiedlichen Ländern Europas – andererseits aber auch aus zwei unterschiedlichen disziplinären Perspektiven – Anthropologie und Ethnomusikologie – zu beleuchten. Musikalische Beiträge kamen von Salah Ammo, Bahram Ajezyar und Milad Bakhtiyari, Gastgeberin war Ursula Hemetek.

Klangheimaten – Musik und Minderheiten
Als erste Manifestation der Kooperation zwischen dem MMRC und der Initiative Minderheiten ist eine gemeinsam gestaltete Schwerpunktausgabe der Stimme, der Zeitschrift der Initiative Minderheiten, erschienen. Die Ausgabe stellt in mehreren Artikeln die aktuellen Forschungsschwerpunkte des MMRC vor und gibt einen Ausblick auf mögliche zukünftige Themen.

Das MMRC im Radio und im mdw-Magazin
Falls Ihnen die kommenden Feiertage etwas Muße bescheren, so möchten Sie vielleicht auch die Radiosendung von Radio Stimme nachhören, die anlässlich der vom MMRC gestalteten Ausgabe der Zeitschrift Stimme produziert wurde und die Musik zu den Artikeln vorstellt.
Empfehlen dürfen wir Ihnen außerdem die September-Ausgabe der Radiosendung Eigenklang, in der Ioannis Christidis' Dissertationsprojekt, „Music in the Experience of Forced Migration from Syria to the European Borderland”, vorgestellt wird.
In der aktuellen Ausgabe des mdw-Magazins findet sich ebenfalls ein Artikel von Ioannis Christidis, „Bye-bye … Refugee Camps!”.

In the last newsletter of this year we want to inform you about current developments at the Music and Minorities Research Center.
Event review
The 2020 MMRC Lecture
On November 11, 2020 – under special conditions and as an online only event – the first MMRC Lecture took place. After their talks, Dawn Chatty and Marko Kölbl entered into dialogue with each other in order to examine the topic of forced migration, on the one hand with regard to different communities, Syrian and Afghan refugees in different European countries, but also from two different disciplinary perspectives: anthropology and ethnomusicology. Musical contributions were made by Salah Ammo, Bahram Ajezyar and Milad Bakhtiyari, the host was Ursula Hemetek.

Klangheimaten – Musik und Minderheiten
As a first manifestation of the cooperation between MMRC and the NGO Initiative Minorities, a jointly designed special issue of the Stimme, the magazine of Initiative Minorities, has been published. In several articles the issue presents the current research focus of MMRC and gives an outlook on possible future topics.

If the coming holidays give you some time off, you may also want to listen to Radio Stimme's radio program, produced for the MMRC-designed issue of the magazine Stimme, which features music to accompany the articles.
We would also like to recommend the September issue of the radio program Eigenklang, which presents Ioannis Christidis' dissertation project, “Music in the Experience of Forced Migration from Syria to the European Borderland”.
