It\u2019s about this awareness that we\u2019re ultimately just part of a system, one that could exist without us while we couldn\u2019t exist without it.<\/p>\n<p><b>Climate change is relevant to the cultural world because\u2026 <\/b>the cause of climate change is anchored in our social structure. And art, specifically, always plays a role in shaping this structure while simultaneously being part of it. What\u2019s more, climate change means that we\u2019ll be facing all kinds of new circumstances over the next several years where culture will have to find a new place and decisions will have to be made with an eye to sustainability.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6683-2\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6683-2\" style=\"width: 850px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-6683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mdw.ac.at\/magazin\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/post-1_image0-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mdw.ac.at\/magazin\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/post-1_image0-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.mdw.ac.at\/magazin\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/post-1_image0-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mdw.ac.at\/magazin\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/post-1_image0-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.mdw.ac.at\/magazin\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/post-1_image0-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.mdw.ac.at\/magazin\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/post-1_image0-850x850.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.mdw.ac.at\/magazin\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/post-1_image0.jpg 1413w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6683-2\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Oama Richson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>Art can change the world by\u2026 <\/b>pointing out what else, for whatever reason, is being hampered in its development, and also by aesthetically transforming difficult-to-grasp content in such a way that it can be understood emotionally and beyond the realm of mere facts.<\/p>\n<p><b>Climate change makes itself noticed in my work as\u2026 <\/b>deliberate engagement with the theme by way of music and an awareness of the opportunities that I have to function as a multiplier, bringing the topics of climate change and the climate crisis into new settings through my teaching.<\/p>\n<p><b>My personal contribution to the protection of our climate is\u2026 <\/b>the creation of an awareness in my surroundings of how every single individual is affected by the climate crisis but also capable of acting to change something about our situation.<\/p>\n<p><b>For the future, I hope\u2026 <\/b>for some of the burden to be taken off of individuals by policymakers and businesspeople focused not merely on profit but on ecological and social sustainability. And until that happens, I think that art\u2019s job is to point out what\u2019s still going wrong.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bdaia-separator se-shadow\" style=\"margin-top:30px !important;margin-bottom:30px !important;\"><\/div>\n<p>In our series, \u201cWhat does art have to do with the Earth\u2019s climate?\u201d the \u201cGreen mdw\u201d initiative invites concerned individuals to speak out on their personal approaches to this issue.<\/p>\n<p>Benno D\u00fcnser studies the school teaching subject of music education at the mdw and was the hmdw\u2019s very first spokesperson on environmental issues.
