Pierre Pitzl

Pierre Pitzl, born in 1965, studied guitar at the Hochschule für Musik und
darstellende Kunst in Vienna, received his soloist diploma with honors in 1984
and was prizewinner at the competition „Jugend Musiziert“. At the Schola Cantorum in Basel he studied lute with Eugen Dombois, Hopkinson Smith and
Jürgen Hübscher and chamber music and thorough bass with
Jesper Christensen. Subsequently, he studied viola da gamba with
Wieland Kuijken and Christoph Coin. For several years he has also been active
as soloist and accompanist on the baroque guitar and his concert appearances with Ayre Espanol, Concerto Köln, Clemencic Consort, Ensemble Daedalus,
Frans Brüggen, Accademia Montis Regalis among others, have taken him to such festivals as the Salzburger Festspielen, Resonanzen Vienna, Lucerne Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Festwochen Innsbruck, Helsinki Festival, London Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebow, Berlin Kammerphilharmonie a.o. He is the
director of the ensemble „Private Musick“ with which he has recorded several
CDs for ORF Edition Alte Musik, ACCENT and Deutsche Gramophone.
Additionally, he has led various master classes (Fondatione Gini Venedig,
Sommerkurse Pöllau, Festival de Musica Antigua de Sevilla) and taught at the
Brno University as well as at the Conservatory Frankfurt/Main.
Pierre Pitzl teaches viola da gamba at mdw and the Conservatory in Vienna.
