Since 1980 first violinist and founding member of the ARTIS-QUARTET of Vienna which is serving as quartet in residence at the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde (Musikverein) in Vienna since 1988. 1970-84 he studied violin at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna with Hertha Binder and Josef Suk, private studies with Alfred Staar. Chamber music coaching with Hatto Beyerle and 84/85 recipient of the Friedlander Fellowship to study at the University of Cincinnati (USA) with the La Salle Quartet. First price for chamber music and special prize of the Vienna Philharmonic at the Austrian Youth Competition “Jugend musiziert” 1979. Prize winner at competitions in Cambridge 1983 (GB), Evian 1984 (F) and Yellow Springs 1985 (USA). With the AQ he performed at the most prestigious halls and festivals in Europe and abroad -Musikverein/ Konzerthaus Vienna, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Theatre Champs Elysees / Salle Pleyel Paris, Herkulessaal München, Philharmonie and Konzerthaus Berlin, Wigmore Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall London, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Teatro Colon, Suntory Hall Tokyo, NCPA Beijing.
For recording more than 35 CDs he received international awards including Echo Klassik (D), Grand Prix du Disque (F), Diapason d' Or (F), Prix Caecilia (B), Indie Award (USA), Wiener Flötenuhr (A) and Midem Classical Award (F). PS performed with artists like Mischa Maisky, Nabuko Imai, Peter Frankl, Boris Berman, Christoph Eschenbach, Ralf Gothoni, Richard Stoltzman, MichelLethiec, Sharon Kam, Juliane Banse, Lawrence Power, Till Fellner and Sol Gabetta.
1980-85 member of the Vienna String Soloists.
1981-84 playing as guest with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under conductors like Böhm, Karajan, Kleiber, Abbado, Muti, Solti, Maazel, Barenboim, Giulini.
Guest leader with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Philharmonic, Vienna String Soloists, Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg.
Solo performances in Austria, USA, Germany, France with RSO Berlin, Orchestre d'Ille de France, Norfolk Festival Orchestra, Neues Wiener Kammerorchester, Orchester der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Wien.
Masterclasses at Eastman School of Music, Yale School of Music, Sibelius Academy, Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, Geidai University Tokyo, Pro Quartet, CCM Cincinnati, Lithuanian Academy, Estonian Academy, Mahidol University and teaching at renowned summer academies like Kuhmo, ISA, Festival Pablo Casals, Orford Festival, Norfolk Festival and MISQA Montreal.

1993-98 guest professor for chamber music at the University of Music Graz. Since 1996 Mr. Schuhmayer is on the faculty of the University of Music and
Performing Arts in Vienna teaching chamber music and violin.
Since 2012 close cooperation with the Royal College of Music London and frequently giving masterclasses for violin.
