Marialena Fernandes

born in Mumbai, India. Musical education at the Royal School of Music, and psychology at the University.
A state grant enabled her to come to Vienna where she found her second home.
Fernandes completed Performance- and Chamber Music Studies and received her Honours Diploma from the University of Music in Vienna with distinctions. Her  professors were Walter Panhofer, Bruno Seidlhofer, Stanislav Neuhaus and Tamas Vasary were her teachers. Already during her education she won awards in many famous piano contests, such as International Beethoven- and Boesendorfer Competition in Vienna.
Solo and Chamber Music concerts in many European capitals, in Asia, Africa, Australia, and the USA. Performances at Salzburg, Vienna and Haydn Festivals, as well as at the Styrian Autumn with contemporary composers.
Radio- and TV-programmes worldwide, documented on LPs and CDs. Haydn- and Schubert recordings for Austrian Radio and Television Broadcast as well as CD-series “Casablanca Edition Modern”.

Over the past years she has distinguished herself above all as curator. Founder member of the Gemini Piano Quartet with soloists of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Artistic supervisor of various "Fusion Events" which includes
spontaneous improvisation. The programmes created by her are a popular forum for especially gifted young musicians.

Professor of Chamber Music at the University of Music in Vienna, 1988 - 2006 supervised a piano class at the Joseph Haydn Conservatory in Eisenstadt.

International master classes and jury member at international music competitions.

She has a strong affinity for the Vienna Classical and Romantic Period but also intense involvement with contemporary music, producing piano interpretations and introducing it through verbal presentations.
