Performing Politics: Countering Erasure
Academic, Activist, and Artistic Responses to Gendered Political Violence since the 1990s

How do arts and academia address the sociocidal politics unleashed since the end of the Cold War and the sexualized, gendered dimension of militarization at the advent of a new world order? The ICGP symposium Countering Erasure seeks to bring together international artists and scholars from cultural studies, abolition, and critical law studies, aswell as social sciences, who address this question with regard to differing historical and geographical contexts and the afterlife of political violence: from the former Yugoslavia to Lebanon and Israel/ Palestine. It claims the university and gender studies in particular as an open space for public debate in the wake of a current authoritarian drift and politics of silencing.
Countering Erasure is the kick-off event of ICGP’s new winter symposium, Performing Politics, and will take place in cooperation with the Artistic Research series Filmic Solidarities — Dialogues for a New Commons organized by Clarissa Thieme and Christina Stuhlberger.
