Wir haben am Institut für Volksmusikforschung und Ethnomusikologie in den kommenden Wochen wieder einige spannende Veranstaltungen, über die wir Sie gerne informieren möchten. Wir freuen uns über Ihren Besuch! 

Am 6. Mai 2026 laden wir zum IVE-Volksmusikstammtisch #4 in die Weinbar. Mehr Info hier. 

Am 8. und 9. Mai 2026  findet das interdisziplinäre Festival TODAS. Lateinamerikanische Musikerinnen* in Wien statt. An den beiden Tagen erwarten Sie Konzerte, ein Vortrag und ein Roundtable. Der Anmeldeschluss ist heute hier.

Am 21. Mai haben wir ein Lecture-Konzert: Miguel Siso. 13:30 Uhr, K0101 A, Anton-von-Webern-Platz 1, 1030 Wien.

Am 28. Mai laden wir zum Jahreskonzert um 18:00 Uhr in den Fanny-Hensel-Saal.

Zur Erinnerung: Der letzte Tag für die Bewerbung für den Masterstudiengang Ethnomusikologie ist der 20. Mai.

IVE-Volksmusik-Stammtisch #4 - zum Singen und Musizieren in die Weinbar

Wir möchten herzlich zum vierten Volksmusik-Stammtisch des Instituts für Volksmusikforschung und Ethnomusikologie einladen: Formales Lernen und Lehren werden kurzerhand in den öffentlichen Raum verlagert, wo die Grenzen zwischen Üben, Spiel und Anwendung verschwimmen, ohne Bühne und fixen Ablauf, ohne Gage und Eintritt, aber mit Gästen und Publikum. Den Anfang machen Ensembles aus dem Volksmusikpraktikum von Gertrud Maria Huber. Danach ist Einsteigen, Dazukommen oder Übernehmen erwünscht! Alle Instrumentengruppen sind willkommen. Auch der Gastwirt freut sich auf unser Kommen und wird kleine Gerichte bereithalten.

TODAS. Lateinamerikanische Musikerinnen* in Wien

TODAS ist ein zweitägiges wissenschaftlich-künstlerisches Festival zur besonderen Positionierung von Musikerinnen* aus Lateinamerika in Europa. Im Dialog zwischen Musik und Wissenschaft werden Herausforderungen der Kategorisierung, Präsentation und Vermarktung thematisiert. Verhandelt wird, wie Diskurse über Zugehörigkeit und Identität mit nationalen Klassifikationen, musikalischen Erwartungen und kulturellem „Othering" verwoben sind.

The Cuatro Venezolano by Miguel Siso

Der venezolanische Musiker und Grammy Gewinner (Best Instrumental Album 2018) Miguel Siso präsentiert im Rahmen eines Lecture Concerts das Cuatro Venezolano. Im Zentrum der Veranstaltung stehen die musikalischen und kulturellen Hintergründe dieses für Venezuela charakteristischen Saiteninstruments. Das Lecture Concert verbindet wissenschaftliche Perspektiven der Ethnomusikologie mit lebendiger musikalischer Praxis und bietet Teilnehmer_innen die Gelegenheit, das Cuatro Venezolano sowohl in seinem kulturellen Kontext als auch in seiner musikalischen Vielfalt kennenzulernen.

Seien Sie dabei bei unserem jährlichen Konzert am 28. Mai 2026, bei dem Studierende des Fachbereichs Volksmusikforschung und Ethnomusikologie ein breites Spektrum an stilistischer Vielfalt aus verschiedenen Musiktraditionen rund um den Globus präsentieren werden. Studierende aus verschiedenen Studiengängen der mdw, insbesondere diejenigen mit dem künstlerischen Schwerpunkt im Masterstudiengang Ethnomusikologie, werden musizieren und tanzen. Der Abend bietet Einblicke in eine Vielzahl musikalischer Traditionen, darunter südosteuropäische Musik und Tanz, Wiener Musik sowie jiddische, irische und afro-karibische traditionelle Musik. Das Jahreskonzert des Instituts für Volksmusikforschung und Ethnomusikologie repräsentiert die musikalische Vielfalt der Welt, die an der mdw zunehmend vertreten ist.

On May 21 we invite you to the Lecture-Concert by Miguel Siso on The Cuatro Venezolano. At 13:30 in K0101 Anton-von-Webern-Platz 1, 1030 Wien.

On May 28 we will host the Annual concert of the Department of Folk Music Research and Ethnomusicology, at 18:00 in Joseph Haydn-Saal.

Get-together (Regular's table)

IVE folk music Get Together (regulars' table) #4 – singing and making music in the wine bar

We are happy to invite you to the IVE's second folk music regulars' table. We are simply moving formal learning and teaching into the public space, where the boundaries between practicing, playing, and application become blurred - without a stage and a fixed schedule, without fees or admission, but with guests and audience. We will start with ensembles from Gertrud Maria Huber's folk music classes at the mdw. Afterward, everyone is invited to join in or take over at any time. All instrument groups are welcome. The innkeeper is also looking forward to our coming and will have small dishes ready.

TODAS. Latin American Women* Musicians in Vienna

TODAS is a two-day academic and artistic festival addressing the unique position of women musicians from Latin America in Europe, alongside the associated challenges of categorization, presentation, and marketing. Our aim is to illuminate how discourses on belonging and identity intertwine with national classifications, musical expectations, and cultural "othering."

The Cuatro Venezolano by Miguel Siso

Venezuelan musician and Grammy winner (Best Instrumental Album 2018) Miguel Siso will present the Cuatro Venezolano in a lecture concert. The event will focus on the musical and cultural background of this string instrument, which is characteristic of Venezuela. The lecture concert combines scholarly perspectives from ethnomusicology with lively musical performance, offering participants the opportunity to explore the Cuatro Venezolano both within its cultural context and through its musical diversity.

Annual concert of the Department of Folk Music Research and Ethnomusicology

Join us at our annual concert on May 28, 2026, in which students from the Department of Folk Music Research and Ethnomusicology will present a wide range of stylistic diversity from different musical traditions around the world. Students from various fields of study at the mdw, especially those with an artistic major in the Master’s program in Ethnomusicology, will be making music and dancing. The evening will offer insights into a variety of musical traditions, including Southeast European music and dance, Viennese music as well as Yiddish, Irish and Afro-Caribbean traditional music. The annual concert of the Department for Folk Music Research and Ethnomusicology represents the musical diversity of the world, which is increasingly represented at the mdw.
