Veranstaltung

queer trans* culturality

Mit Mbongeni Mtshali, Rüstem Ertuğ Altınay, Anthony Mordechai Tzvi Russell, Jason Otoo, Ilgaz Yalçınoğlu, Djamila Grandits, DŽIPSII, Ari Kozanoğlu und vielen mehr...

20. & 21. Juni 2025, Bankettsaal

Dear friends of transculturality_mdw!

In one week, the event "queer trans* culturality" will take place on June 20 and 21, to which we cordially invite you once again. At the two-day gathering, activists, artists and researchers will exchange views on queer perspectives on transculturality. The event will conclude on June 21 with a concert and artist talk with the Serbian singer DŽIPSII. You can find more detailed information about the program below or on our website.

We look forward to your interest and participation!

Event

queer trans* culturality

With Mbongeni Mtshali, Rüstem Ertuğ Altınay, Anthony Mordechai Tzvi Russell, Jason Otoo, Ilgaz Yalçınoğlu, Djamila Grandits, DŽIPSII, Ari Kozanoğlu and many more...

June 20 & 21, 2025, Bankettsaal

This gathering convenes activists, artists, and researchers from diverse backgrounds to develop queer stances and critiques on transculturality—a concept that interrogates essentialist boundaries of the familiar and the foreign and problematizes the notion of ‘culture’ itself. Building on Queer of Color Critique, which exposes the blank spots in discourses around race within queer theoretical frameworks, we extend this analytical lens to broader contexts involving ethnic minorities, postmigrant communities, and forced migration experiences, particularly through embodied expressions in music, dance or theatre.

Concert and artist talk

DŽIPSII

Saturday, June 21, 7:30pm, Joseph Haydn-Saal  (7:30pm artist talk, 8:15pm concert)

Jovan Živadinović, known as Džipsii, is a Serbian pop and R&B artist, singer-songwriter, and performer. He showed a passion for music and performance from a young age, beginning his artistic journey through dance, where he won several national awards. In 2023, Džipsii gained national attention as a finalist at Serbia’s Eurovision selection with the song Greh. Known for blending underground sounds with pop and R&B influences, his work is marked by emotional depth and a distinctive artistic identity. As a queer Rom, he is also one of the few artists in Serbia speaking openly about his identity, using his platform to advocate for inclusion and representation in the arts.
