MMRC Journal Music & Minorities (M&M) jetzt im DOAJ indexiert
Wir freuen uns, bekannt zu geben, dass unser Journal Music & Minorities (M&M) nun im Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) indexiert ist! DOAJ ist eine zentrale Datenbank für Open-Access-Publikationen, deren Ziel es ist, die Sichtbarkeit, Zugänglichkeit, Reputation, Nutzung und Wirkung von qualitativ hochwertigen, begutachteten Open-Access-Journalen weltweit zu erhöhen, unabhängig von Disziplin, Veröffentlichungsort oder Sprache. Die Aufnahme von M&M in das DOAJ erhöht die internationale Sichtbarkeit und Erreichbarkeit der im Journal veröffentlichten Forschungsergebnisse signifikant. Wir möchten diese Gelegenheit nutzen, um den Mitgliedern unseres Editorial Boards, den Mitarbeiter*innen von mdwPress und der Sächsischen Landes- und Universitätsbibliothek (SLUB), unseren Autoren und natürlich unseren Lesern für ihren Beitrag zur Erreichung dieses Ziels zu danken!

Das MMRC begrüßt ein neues Teammitglied, Samo Zeichen
Willkommen / Dobrodošel!
Das MMRC begrüßt Samo Zeichen als neuen Mitarbeiter für die Aufgaben allgemeine Bürokoordination, Projektassistenz, Aufgaben der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit sowie die Planung und Durchführung von Veranstaltungen. Samos interdisziplinärer Hintergrund, der Studien an der Universität Graz (BWL) und der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien (Cross Disciplinary Strategies) umfasst, erweitert die vorhandenen Expertisen am MMRC. Seine Erfahrungen aus den Bereichen Musikvermittlung, Verantaltungsorganisation und der freien Kulturarbeit können direkt in die Tätigkeitsbereiche des MMRC einfließen.

Podiumsdiskussion und Konzertabend anlässlich des Internationalen Tages der Rom*nja

Der Verein Voice of Diversity lädt anlässlich des Internationalen Tages der Rom*nja zu einem besonderen Festakt ins Porgy & Bess in Wien ein.
Unter dem diesjährigen Titel „Was bleibt von uns….Musik der Roma - Vorurteil und Wirklichkeit“ erwartet die Besucher*innen ein vielfältiges wissenschaftliches und kulturelles Programm. Im Zentrum stehen die bedeutenden Musiktraditionen der Rom*nja, ein zentraler Bestandteil ihrer kulturellen Identität, der jedoch oft von Stereotypen überlagert wird. Tini Kainrath, Harri Stojka und Claudius Jelinek eröffnen den Abend mit Roma-Liedern. Anschließend findet ein von Christiane Fennesz-Juhasz (Ethnomusikologin, Phonogrammarchiv an der ÖAW) moderiertes Podiumsgespräch statt, an dem Adrian Gaspar (Pianist, Komponist und Arrangeur), Vesna Kovacevic (Musikerin und Schulmediatorin) sowie Ursula Hemetek (Ethnomusikologin und Leiterin des MMRC) teilnehmen werden. Der Abend wird durch ein Konzert von Harri Stojka India Express abgerundet.

We are proud to announce that Music & Minorities (M&M) is now indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)! DOAJ is a key database in the open access ecosystem, whose mission is to increase the visibility, accessibility, reputation, usage and impact of quality, peer-reviewed, open access scholarly research journals globally, regardless of discipline, geography or language. The inclusion of M&M in DOAJ is an important milestone that will significantly increase the reach of the journal and is a recognition of our efforts to build and continually develop a state-of-the-art open access journal. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of our editorial board, the staff of mdwPress and the Saxon State and University Library (SLUB), our authors, and of course our readers for their support in pursuing this goal!

The MMRC welcomes a new team member, Samo Zeichen
Welcome / Dobrodošel!
The MMRC welcomes Samo Zeichen as a new employee in charge of organizational and coordination matters, project assistance, public relations tasks and the planning and execution of events. Samo's interdisciplinary background, which includes studies at the University of Graz (Business Administration) and the University of Applied Arts Vienna (Cross Disciplinary Strategies), expands the existing expertise at the MMRC. His experience in music education, event organization, and cultural work can be directly integrated into the MMRC's areas of activity.

Panel discussion and concert evening on the occasion of the International Rom*nja Day
April 8, 2025, from 6:00 PM, Porgy & Bess, Riemergasse 11, 1010 Vienna
The Voice of Diversity association invites to a special event at Porgy & Bess in Vienna on the occasion of the International Rom*nja Day.
Under this year's title "What remains of us... Music of the Rom*nja – Prejudice and Reality", visitors can expect a diverse scholarly and cultural program. The focus is on the significant music traditions of the Rom*nja, a central component of their cultural identity, which is often overshadowed by stereotypes. Tini Kainrath, Harri Stojka, and Claudius Jelinek will open the evening with Roma songs. A panel discussion will follow, chaired by Christiane Fennesz-Juhasz (ethnomusicologist, Phonogrammarchiv at the Austrian Academy of Sciences), in which Adrian Gaspar (pianist, composer, and arranger), Vesna Kovacevic (musician and school mediator) and Ursula Hemetek (ethnomusicologist and director of the MMRC) will take part. The evening will conclude with a concert by Harri Stojka India Express.
