Graduiertenzentrum - Graduate Center

#1 Newsletter Graduate Center

Introducing the Graduate Center

The mdw Graduate Center is the central contact point for everyone interested in our doctoral programmes, for doctoral students already enrolled at mdw, and for graduates currently finding themselves in the postdoc phase.

We offer orientation, information and advice for those who are starting a career as a researcher or who are thinking of embarking upon an academic career. In addition, the Graduate Center is a platform that enables doctoral students and postdocs at mdw to exchange ideas and build networks.
At the moment we only exist online and we will continuously expand the website in the near future. Our newsletter bundles information relevant for doctoral students.

Save the date

In order to get first information and orientation, the Graduate Center invites all doctoral students new to the mdw to our Welcome Day on October 10th in the afternoon. We are very much looking forward to this event, please save the date!

We are looking for Doc-Buddies

The mdw's Doc-Buddy-Programme is designed to help new doctoral students arrive at the mdw and to welcome them during their first weeks at their new university.

Doc-Buddies are contact persons for new doctoral students, introduce them to other doctoral students, show them around campus and other important places in the area, and help them get off to a good start. If you are interested in becoming a buddy or need more information, please contact Lea Rizzi Ladinser graduiertenzentrum@mdw.ac.at

Be visible!

The Office of the Dean of Research Studies invites PhD students to set up a profile to be visible online. If you are interested to present yourself and your dissertation project on the website, we kindly ask you to send your CV with a photo and a short text describing your dissertation project (approx. 1000 characters) to: stdw@mdw.ac.at. The design of the profiles will be similar to the ones from the structured doctoral programme. You can find them at: https://www.mdw.ac.at/stdw/sdp/team/doctoral-students/. The deadline is September 26th 2022.

☞ Opportunities

There are some deadlines coming up for funding opportunities that we would like to point out:

If you are looking for funding, the submission for the DOC Fellowship Programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences is open from August 10th - September 15th 2022. This programme offers funding for highly qualified doctoral candidates in all areas of research.
The fellowships allow young researchers to dedicate themselves to working in focused fashion to complete their doctoral thesis within a clear timeframe.

For team workers there is the DOC-team Fellowship. With the DOC-team funding programme, the Austrian Academy of Sciences funds teams of 3 to 4 doctoral candidates from the humanities and the social and cultural sciences to develop interdisciplinary solutions to problems. Involvement of doctoral candidates from the fields of the natural sciences, medicine or technology is desirable. Deadline: October 31st 2022.

The mdw's doctoral scholarship aims to fund early stage researchers. The deadline is on September 28th. Support through the doctoral scholarship is possible for a total of 2 academic years.

PhD students who are already in the research phase and Dr. Artium students who are in the focus phase have the opportunity to apply for a SYLFF Grants from the Tokyo Foundation. The Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF), is a fellowship programme to support students pursuing graduate studies in the humanities and social sciences.

We wish you a safe and enjoyable summer break.
