ICONgo Student-centred teaching and learning – “Catching the train again”
ICON seminars aim to extend understanding of how musicians learn, particularly in conservatoire and specialist music education contexts. Bringing together teachers to reflect on their practice, they consider how as teachers they can facilitate the development of an intense and detailed craft alongside supporting individual artistry, creative expression and sustainable professional practice.
Following the previous ICON seminars in 2016 and 2017 this workshop will offer the opportunity to re-visit and extend the skills learned and experienced. We will practice working forms and reflect on coaching moments in teaching. We will explore feedback processes which enable creative learning and give students a sense of autonomy and ownership. We will share experiences and reflect on ways of making sure we are able to renew our own energy and expertise in the learning space as creative artists and teachers.
The Innovative Conservatoire (ICON) is an international collaboration chaired by the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, bringing teachers from music conservatoires together to share and explore practice, reflect, research and innovate. www.innovativeconservatoire.com
