Grazia Magazzù took her degree in Fine Art, Music and Drama at the DAMS in Bologna, under the guidance of Prof. Roberto Leydi. She gained a PhD in Musicology and Musical Heritage at the University of Bologna, presenting a thesis entitled: The Forms and Patterns of Diaphony in Traditional Italian Music. She carries out research into traditional vocal and instrumental music in Sicily, Basilicata and Calabria. Some of the recorded material that she has collected during her field research is now filed in the Ethnic-linguistic Music Archive in the State Record Library. Most of her research concerns vocal styles and traditional dance.
She has a diploma from the Academy of Music in Piano and Music Teaching. She currently teaches Music in a middle school.
