Ivan Lešnik was born in 1959 in Koper (Slovenia). He studied at the Academy of Education of the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), at the Faculty of Education of the University of Maribor (Slovenia), and at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, where he completed an MA course in the field of ethnomusicology and later PhD in Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana. He teaches music didactics at the Faculty of Education Koper, University of Primorska (Slovenia), works as a choir conductor and as a researcher in the field of music acoustics and ethnomusicology.

He is an active member of several organizations, participating to conferences, research projects and symposiums: the International Society for Music Education (ISME), the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM), the International Association for The Study of Popular Music (IASPM ), the Slovene Society for Acoustics (SDA), the Society for Ethnomusicology (SEM).

Fields of research: musical education, ethnomusicology, acoustics and choir conduction.
