Bernhard Adler was born in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. After studying music pedagogy as a voice major  in Mannheim, he continued his studies in  Art-song (Lied) and music-dramatic representation (Music performance) at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

1982 Diploma in Art-song and Music Performance.

1982 debut as Leporello at the Stadttheater Gießen. 1987-1990 succeeded with another fixed engagement at “die Bühnen der Freien Hansestadt Lübeck”. Since 1990 Bernhard Adler is working as a freelance musician.

Guest contracts at various German opera houses including; Bonn, Kiel, Staatstheater Oldenburg, Anhaltisches Theater Dessau and Staatsoperette Dresden.

His repertoire includes roles such as Falstaff/Lustige Weiber, Van Bett/Zar und Zimmermann, Gianni Schicchi, Zsupan/Zigeunerbaron, Kezal/Verkaufte Braut, Dulcamara/Liebestrank, Ollendorf/Bettelstudent and Germont/La Traviata.

In addition to his opera career Bernhard Adler could also be heard in numerous concerts and recitals, including such places as,  Berlin, Munich, Dresden, Prague and Copenhagen and there are recordings to be found on ORF (Elias by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and the bariton part in Frank Martins Golgotha), as well as with cpo (Izzet Pascha/Fatinitza by Franz von Suppé).

From 2003-2008 he was a lecturer for singing, voice training and speech training at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich.

Since 2007, he works as a professor at the Institut für Gesang  und musikdramatische Darstellung at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien.

2014 he held master classes at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and at the Musikhochschule Münster.
