Students are to acquire the skills necessary for a qualified directorship
of musical ensembles taking into consideration the curricular emphases
within their area of concentration. The studies are to embrace the entire
relevant musical literature, including contemporary music. The first stage
of study is dedicated to an introduction to the entire field of music
theory and the fundamental skills of musical performance. The second stage
of study involves a deeper specialization in ones studies commensurate
with the chosen area of concentration.
There are three possible areas of concentration

MAJOR IN:
- ORCHESTRAL CONDUCTING
- CHORAL CONDUCTING
- ACCOMPANIMENT
Students of orchestral conducting have a permanent rehearsal orchestra
available to them (Pro Arte Orchestra); second-level exams are held as
public concerts with a well-qualified professional ensemble in one of
the large concert halls in Vienna.
Students of choral conducting have the opportunity of rehearsing with
the WebernStudioChor, consisting of students and professional singers.
In the accompaniment major, students are instructed in the preparation
of vocal parts (in the original language) and in fulfilling the pianistic
requirements of working in opera. The course of study also includes conducting.
